Native Speakers Also Make Mistakes!
As people, we value convenience over anything else. We have busy lives that we try to navigate every day. Every conversation that we have is just a moment. It’s rare that we remember one, therefore it’s impossible to think that we remember all of them.
I’m sure you agree with me up until this point, so now I must ask you a serious question.
Why are you worried about making mistakes?
Each person you have talked to up until this point has forgotten the majority of any and all conversations you have had with them up until this point. There are bigger things to worry about than a small error that you have made.
Relationships, work, family, bills, and your favorite celebrities’ new clothes are just a few. We have no interest in adding some small insignificant detail to our lists of worries. Your secret is safe with us as we will forget it anyways…
Native speakers make mistakes because they care about convenience. If we were to stop and fix every error the conversation would break down. We want to speak more and get to the point.
Isn’t that your target, to “speak fluently in English”? The way to not reach that goal is to concentrate on every error. The way to achieve it is to push past and speak as much as possible.
